It is estimated that the elimination of leaks in compressed air systems can save up to 35 % of the energy costs associated with the use of a compressor. In order to reliably detect air leaks in compressed air lines, the company Sonotec offers the ultrasonic leak detector Sonaphone which is designed for a quick and precise location of leaks in compressed air, inert gas and vacuum systems.
The device records ultrasonic frequencies from 20 to 100 kHz. Test data, spectrograms as well as photographs, voice memos and comments to the measuring point can be stored on the device. A range of different devices and accessories are available to meet different applications. For example, in order to find leaks over long distances, the parabolic dish Sonospot can be employed which is able to locate leaks up to a range of 20m.
